Frequently Asked Questions
"What do you do? Is this Art Therapy?" I'm an "empowerment coach" who helps people with their life journey, one-on-one. I believe that the act of creating can enhance life; I will empower you to express yourself by creating. I am not a therapist. I am passionate about mental health and can offer resources for help outside of my scope. That said, I am experienced with emotion regulation strategies and approaches to living as a neurodivergent in an allistic world. I am neurodivergent-affirming and different-ability-friendly. I have much experience in tailoring concepts and approaches to individual's wants and needs. "What do sessions look like?"When we begin, I will learn what you feel your needs and wants are, and we will create steps along your path, destinations along your journey. (And I can help you with the discovery of those if needed!) We work together for 50 minute sessions, and I structure our time together to take steps to meeting your journey goals. We can use the more readily accessible pencil, pen, or digital art media, but we can also use other art media like watercolor, paint, cardboard... well, it's up to us! Approaches with media can look like technical aspects of learning to draw, paint, or make digital art. It can also be more about tapping into emotions and using various art media and even writing so that you learn to express yourself creatively. "Where do sessions take place?"We can meet in person if you're in the Austin area. Common meeting spots include coffee shops, libraries, craft studios, and parks (weather dependent). If you can't meet in person or you are not local, we can meet online! "What materials do I need?"
Materials used are based on your journey goals. I can recommend supplies and sources based on your goals.
Local? No worries, if you don't have anything, I have you covered for our first session!
Online? To start, even if all you have is paper and something to write with, or a smart phone with an app store, you're ready! We can also take on the challenge of dirt and a stick as well if that's what you have! (That sounds like amazing fun!)
